Solomon Islands Electoral Commission engages in knowledge exchange with AEC

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission (SIEC) is participating in a three-day Knowledge Exchange Program (KEP) with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) in Canberra. The initiative aims to strengthen the SIEC’s institutional capacity and electoral skills through direct engagement with Australian officials.

Discussions have covered workforce planning, the management of Temporary Election Workers (TEWs), and the AEC’s ‘Learn, Practice, Apply’ framework for leadership and trainer development. The delegation also explored e-learning systems and the role of technology in staff training.

Chief Electoral Officer Jasper Highwood Anisi described the program as ‘timely and practical,’ noting its importance for upcoming milestones, including the 2027 Biometric Voter Registration and the 2028 Joint Elections. Future sessions are expected to address strategic issues such as out-of-country and constituency voting as the Solomon Islands considers further electoral reforms.
