Solomon Islands MP David Gina dies following stroke
Solomon Islands has lost its second Member of Parliament in five days following the death of David Gina, the representative for South New Georgia, Rendova, and Tetepare. Gina, 65, passed away at the National Referral Hospital after suffering a stroke.
Gina held several significant roles, including Minister for Rural Development and Deputy Speaker of the National Parliament. He previously served as the Premier of Western Province from 2018 to 2021. His death follows the recent passing of Ulawa/Ugi MP William Bradford Marau.
The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission is expected to conduct by-elections to fill the resulting vacancies before the 2028 national elections. Official Opposition Leader Manasseh Sogavare issued a message of condolence, recognizing Gina’s contributions to provincial leadership and national development.
