The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department (EODD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) has successfully neutralized 467 unexploded ordnances (UXOs) from World War II across several provinces.
In Western Province, including Munda, Rendova, and Kolombangara Islands, teams destroyed 352 items. Operations in Choiseul Province, covering areas such as Tarepasika and Taro, resulted in the destruction of 43 items, including a large aerial bomb. An additional 72 items, including another aerial bomb, were destroyed in the Shortland Islands.
Assistant Commissioner for National Operations Lionel Kapisa stated that many of these hazards were exposed by the recent Tropical Cyclone Maila. The disposal efforts were supported by the Australian Defence Force through the Defence Cooperation Program.
