Solís-León Aqueduct project remains active to address Guanajuato water crisis

Legislators and officials in Guanajuato have clarified that the Solís-León Aqueduct project remains active despite the absence of a specific line item in the 2027 Federal Expenditure Budget. While the project is intended to secure potable water for León, officials emphasize that it is designed to address water stress for millions of people across ten municipalities in the region.

Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo stated the project has the support of both federal and state governments, noting that 520 million pesos have already been invested in irrigation technification and lining works.

Federal deputies noted that while resources for water and complementary works are included under Conagua, further dialogue is needed with local farmers. Key concerns include how to compensate agricultural producers in the Solís Dam area who may be affected by changes to water distribution systems and how small-scale farmers will access resources for necessary irrigation upgrades.
