Vilafranca del Penedès reports falling crime rates and new scooter rules

Vilafranca del Penedès has reported a 12.2% decrease in criminal offenses during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior. This decline outperforms the averages for both Catalonia (7.4%) and the Barcelona demarcation (8.4%). Notable reductions include a 40% drop in drug trafficking, a 21% decrease in residential and business burglaries, and a 20.2% reduction in thefts.

In conjunction with these safety trends, local authorities are preparing for new mobility regulations. Starting October 5, the Vilafranca Local Police will launch an information and control campaign regarding Personal Mobility Vehicles (VMP), such as electric scooters. This follows a modification to the General Traffic Regulations effective October 1, which introduces a minimum age requirement of 15 years and mandates the use of helmets for scooter riders.
