SOLUPLAST project launched in Ziguinchor to combat plastic waste

The SOLUPLAST project, titled ‘Sustainable Solution to Plastic Pollution in Senegal’, has been presented to authorities and stakeholders in Ziguinchor. The initiative aims to sanitize Senegalese cities by addressing plastic waste, specifically targeting the food and beverage sectors.

Funded by 3 billion FCFA from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the five-year program will utilize a ‘bottom-up’ approach, emphasizing co-construction and collaboration with local beneficiaries. The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In Ziguinchor, which is one of the three primary intervention zones alongside Dakar, Thiès, and Saint-Louis, the project will work with administrative authorities, including the regional governor, to establish a pre-selection committee to identify participating local actors.
