Solvay plant inspected following reports of extreme heat and safety risks

The USB union has raised alarms regarding extreme heat and hazardous working conditions at the Solvay Chimica Italia plant in Rosignano. Workers in the Calcium Chloride and SGX departments have reported high temperatures, heavy microclimates, and structural issues that increase operational risks.

Following formal complaints, the local health authority (ASL) and the Labor Inspectorate conducted an inspection of the facility on August 3, 2026. During the walkthrough, inspectors visited several areas, including the Calcium Chloride warehouse and the evaporator zones. The inspection reportedly identified severe heat conditions, poor ventilation, and structural deficiencies such as unstable handrails and problematic walkways.

The ASL has requested official documentation from Solvay regarding risk assessments, microclimate management, and plant conditions. Further investigations are expected as authorities seek to address the safety concerns raised by the workforce.
