Soma Thermal Power Plant to be sold for 13.88 billion TL

The Soma Thermal Power Plant is scheduled to be put up for sale by the Soma Enforcement Directorate on September 14, 2026. The estimated value for the facility has been set at 13 billion 882 million TL.

Konya Şeker Chairman Ramazan Erkoyuncu has previously stated that the power plant falls outside the cooperative's core business areas and has created a significant financial burden due to continuous losses and increasing debt. While previous bank debts related to the plant have been settled—removing Konya Şeker's risk as a guarantor—the proceeds from this sale are expected to be primarily used to pay off debts owed to Türkiye Kömür İşletmeleri (TKİ).

The sale is intended to allow Konya Şeker to refocus its resources and investments on its primary sectors: agriculture and the food industry.
