Soma Thermal Power Plant workers placed on unpaid leave

At the Soma Thermal Power Plant in Manisa, the number of workers placed on unpaid leave has reached 720. This development follows the plant's transition after Torku sold the facility due to bankruptcy.

Türkiye Kömür İşletmeleri (TKİ) reclaimed the plant for approximately 7 billion lira, following a period where Torku owed the state-run entity over 20 billion lira. Ahmet Vehbi Bakırlıoğlu, a YENİ Party Manisa Deputy, noted that while the number of workers on leave currently stands at 720, there are expectations that this figure may increase.

Bakırlıoğlu has directed several critical questions to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources regarding the timeline for the handover process, the certainty of future employment for all workers, and the settlement of outstanding wages, severance, and notice pay owed from the Torku era.
