Somali Future Council denies plans for armed rebellion

The Somali Future Council has rejected allegations that opposition groups are planning to form an armed faction. Council secretary and federal lawmaker Abdullahi Arab stated that the group intends to seek political power through peaceful means rather than military force.

Arab addressed recent tensions regarding the country's electoral process and the administration of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. He specifically clarified that Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Sanbaloolshe, a former director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, is not a member of the council.

The council has not yet finalized its response to the federal government's invitation to national consultations scheduled for mid-November in Mogadishu. Additionally, the council maintains that President Hassan Sheikh's presidential term has expired, contesting constitutional changes that extended the mandates of federal institutions.
