Somali national detained near India-Nepal border

Security forces from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) have detained a Somali national, identified as Kafi Ali Hashi (also known as Hasi Ali), near the India-Nepal border in Bihar.

The detention occurred in the border areas of Motihari and East Champaran districts. According to reports, the individual was intercepted while allegedly attempting to cross into Nepal. During a search, authorities recovered a mobile phone, a microphone, and 25,000 Indian Rupees.

Initial questioning revealed discrepancies in the man's documentation. While he claimed to be a student at Nizam College in Hyderabad, officials discovered that the passport he presented had expired. He reportedly traveled from Delhi through Ghodasahan to reach the border region.

Indian authorities and local police are currently investigating the purpose of his movements and his legal status in India. The incident has prompted increased surveillance along the porous border, amid broader security concerns regarding the movement of third-country nationals in the region.
