Somalia condemns drone attack on Medina power station
Somalia has issued a strong condemnation regarding a drone attack targeting the Al-Taiba power station in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The facility provides electricity to Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, one of Islam's holiest sites.
The Somali Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation described the strike as a dangerous act that violates international law and Saudi sovereignty, noting that targeting facilities serving sacred sites undermines their sanctity. Somalia expressed full solidarity with the Saudi government and called for those responsible to be held accountable, invoking its role as a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Saudi-led coalition reported that Houthi forces, supported by Iran, launched a drone toward the station early Tuesday, causing a transformer to malfunction without affecting the general power grid. While the coalition attributed the attack to the Houthis, Houthi leader Mahdi al-Mashat has denied responsibility, labeling the allegations as fabrications.
