Somalia: Lawmakers file no-confidence motion against Interior Minister
Somali lawmakers have filed a no-confidence motion against Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation Minister Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh. The motion, which has been sent to a parliamentary committee for review, cites failures in managing internal security, addressing clan disputes, and maintaining relations between the federal government and member states.
Lawmakers expressed specific concerns regarding the ministry’s inability to respond to security threats and recurring clan conflicts that have caused displacement and violence. The move occurs amid heightened political tension between Mogadishu and various federal member states over power-sharing and electoral processes.
Separately, at a National Internal Security Conference in Mogadishu, Defence Minister Ahmed Macallin Fiqi advocated for a Somali-led security system. Fiqi emphasized the need for a framework that is accountable, sustainable within the nation’s economic capacity, and capable of protecting civilians while improving cooperation between federal and regional security institutions.
