Somalia nears political deal to establish Democratic Transition Task Force

Somalia’s Federal Government and political opposition representatives are nearing a new political agreement intended to establish a Democratic Transition Task Force (DTT). The body is expected to play a central role in shaping the nation’s democratic transition and electoral processes.

Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud, a member of the Nabad iyo Nolol political group, indicated that negotiations are progressing positively and that parties are close to finalizing the deal. However, specific details regarding the agreement, including the exact signing date, the mandate of the DTT, its membership, and its implementation mechanisms, have not yet been disclosed.

The proposed task force follows years of mediation efforts and political dialogues that have struggled to produce lasting settlements due to recurring disagreements over constitutional reform, federal-state relations, and the distribution of political power.
