Somalia PM launches SIMAD University science and technology centre
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has laid the foundation stone for a new science and technology centre at SIMAD University in Mogadishu. The expansion project, located in the Deynile district, is designed to accommodate up to 15,000 students across an 84,000-square-metre campus.
The facility will feature modern classrooms, lecture halls, laboratories, and libraries to enhance scientific research and technical skills. The project is being implemented through a partnership between SIMAD University and the Kuwait-based humanitarian organization Direct Aid, with construction expected to take approximately four years.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Barre emphasized that educational institutions are vital drivers of social change and essential to the government’s National Transformation Plan. He noted that developing quality universities is key to producing graduates whose skills meet the needs of the labor market and support Somalia’s economic recovery.
