Somalia security and sovereignty discussed by international officials

Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, and the United States met in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly to discuss Somalia’s security and stability. The discussions focused on protecting Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while addressing the nation's ongoing economic and humanitarian challenges.

Separately, reports from the European Council on Foreign Relations indicate that Saudi officials believe the United Arab Emirates may have brokered an arrangement involving Israel’s recognition of Somaliland. According to these assessments, the recognition was potentially linked to granting Israel security access to the strategic port of Berbera, located near the critical Bab al-Mandab maritime passage.
