Somaliland Education Minister intervenes over exam result fees

Somaliland’s Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, has intervened following reports that students and parents were charged a $0.40 fee to access national examination results via Telesom’s Aqoonmaal service.

The minister expressed disappointment, stating that the fees created financial and digital barriers that overshadowed what should have been a celebratory moment for students. Prof. Yusuf pledged to investigate the matter and hold those responsible accountable for imposing the charges.

To ensure access without the paid service, the Ministry of Education has announced alternative methods. Results are being made available through regional and district education offices, as well as through individual schools and other educational institutions.
