Somaliland President pledges peaceful dialogue with Northeastern Administration

Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving political disputes with the Northeastern Administration through peaceful dialogue and negotiation.

During a meeting at the Presidential Palace with senior officials, including House of Representatives Speaker Yasin Haji Mohamud Faratoon and various ministers, the discussions focused on peace, unity, and social cohesion. President Irro stated that his administration, which assumed office on December 12, 2024, prioritizes stability and believes that tensions can be overcome through mutual understanding and brotherhood.

The President also welcomed the return of politician Fahiima Yusuf Quuje, noting that her return could support peace efforts, particularly in the eastern parts of the Sool region. The Northeastern Administration, formerly known as the Khatumo administration, was established in parts of Sool, Sanaag, and Cayn following long-standing conflicts over governance and control of contested areas, including Las Anod.
