Somanya-Dodowa road construction begins in Ghana

Construction has officially commenced on the 34-kilometre Somanya-Dodowa road and various inner roads within the Yilo Krobo Municipality in Ghana's Eastern Region. The sod-cutting ceremony was led by Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey and Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko.

The project is being implemented under the government's ‘Big Push’ programme, an initiative aimed at accelerating infrastructure delivery. Deputy Finance Minister Nyarko noted that the government allocated over GH¢13 billion to Big Push projects last year and has committed approximately GH¢30 billion for the current year. He assured the contractor, Oswal Investments Limited, that payments would be processed promptly to prevent delays.

While the project aims to improve connectivity, boost agricultural activities, and stimulate economic growth in the region, specific details regarding the total contract value and the official completion deadline were not disclosed during the launch. Officials urged residents to monitor the construction quality and cautioned contractors against substandard work.
