Somanya residents urge asphalt use for road projects
Residents of Yilo and Lower Manya Krobo in Ghana's Eastern Region are calling on the government to utilize asphalt overlays for upcoming road projects to ensure long-term durability. The request comes as Roads Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza prepares to launch the rehabilitation of the Somanya-Dodowa trunk road and other selected roads in Somanya.
Local residents and commuters noted that heavy-duty vehicles, specifically more than 50 limestone haulage trucks daily, place extreme pressure on the local infrastructure. While the resumption of work on the Somanya-Adjikpo-Asitey-Kpong road has provided relief from dust pollution, citizens argue that without asphalt surfacing, the roads will quickly deteriorate again, leading to a waste of public resources.
In addition to the main trunk road, drivers have identified the Ogome Anglican School-Abokobi-Zongo Bypass as a route in urgent need of rehabilitation to serve as a reliable alternative during traffic congestion.
