Somatic therapies gain focus for stress and trauma management
Somatic and body-oriented therapies are gaining prominence in stress management and trauma treatment as traditional verbal therapies reach their limits. Because language is estimated to reach only about 5% of human consciousness, physical approaches aim to address deep-seated tension, burnout, and anxiety by targeting the nervous system directly.
Key methods include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which is officially recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Other highlighted techniques include Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE), Somatic Experiencing, and tapping techniques such as EFT/PEP.
Regulation of the nervous system is a central focus, particularly through the stimulation of the vagus nerve, a key component of the parasympathetic nervous system. Additional therapeutic modalities mentioned include breathwork, hypnosis, art therapy, and animal-assisted therapy to promote psychological resilience.
