SOMAWA water ionizers target mineral deficiencies in RO water

SOMAWA, an Indian water ionizer brand backed by the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) under the Ministry of Science and Technology, has served over 500,000 families across 500 cities. The company focuses on addressing the limitations of standard reverse osmosis (RO) purification systems.

While RO systems effectively remove heavy metals and bacteria, they are indiscriminate and often strip water of essential minerals like calcium and magnesium. SOMAWA reports that standard RO output frequently falls below World Health Organization recommendations for mineral content and often results in acidic water with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5.

To complement RO systems, SOMAWA ionizers use electric current to raise pH levels and add dissolved molecular hydrogen. The company emphasizes transparency through measurable metrics, including Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP), dissolved molecular hydrogen (minimum 1,500 ppb), and adjustable pH levels. The brand operates via a direct consultation model rather than online marketplaces, with products ranging from ₹1.14 lakh to ₹2.40 lakh.
