Sombor marks 82nd anniversary of liberation from WWII occupation
The city of Sombor held a formal ceremony to commemorate the 82nd anniversary of its liberation from fascist occupation during World War II. The liberation occurred on October 21, 1944, following four years of occupation.
The commemorative program included the reception of delegations from the embassies of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Bulgaria, as well as representatives from the Serbian Armed Forces and SUBNOR. Wreath-laying ceremonies were conducted at the Partisan, Red Army, and Bulgarian cemeteries, and at the Monument to the Victims of Fascist Terror.
During the central ceremony at the Sombor City Assembly, Mayor Antonio Ratković emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of the liberators and the values of freedom. He noted that freedom serves as the foundation for societal development and the progress of future generations.
