Sombr wears custom ERL rock-inspired fashion at MTV VMAs

Musician Sombr made a bold fashion statement at the 2026 MTV VMAs in Los Angeles, wearing a custom ERL ensemble inspired by 1970s rock aesthetics and Billy Idol. The outfit featured an oversized black-and-white striped faux-fur coat, leather trousers, and heavy accessorizing with various necklaces.

A central element of the look was a crystal-studded belt buckle reading ‘SEX’. According to ERL designer Eli Russell Linnetz, the accessory was the musician’s own idea, requested less than 24 hours before the event. The buckle was custom-crafted in Venice Beach using crystals and antique pins from the designer’s archive.

Sombr, who was nominated for ‘Song of the Summer’ for his track ‘Homewrecker’, wore the belt during an onstage cameo for the opening performance and later transitioned to a different look for a tribute to George Michael.
