Somer Sivrioğlu closes Efendy Istanbul to refocus on Sydney projects

Chef Somer Sivrioğlu has announced the closure of his restaurant, Efendy, in Istanbul. After operating in Turkey for approximately five years, the restaurant held its final service on August 16, 2026.

The decision marks a return to the brand’s origins in Sydney, Australia, where Efendy first opened in 2007. Sivrioğlu intends to focus his gastronomic efforts and brand expansion on his Australian-based projects.

Despite rumors regarding his departure from the television program MasterChef Türkiye due to these changes, Sivrioğlu is expected to continue his role as a jury member for the 2026 season alongside Mehmet Yalçınkaya and Danilo Zanna. He plans to synchronize his filming schedule with his professional commitments in Sydney.
