Somerset Council allocates funds for school improvements and repairs

Somerset Council has announced two significant funding allocations for local education. First, approximately £890,728 in Section 106 funding, originally intended for a new primary school and nursery at the Edmund Park development, has been redirected to Trinity First School. The council determined that existing schools in Frome have sufficient capacity to meet current and projected demand, allowing the developer to be released from the requirement to provide a new school site.

Additionally, the council has been awarded a £3,408,603 grant from the Department for Education (DfE) to conduct critical repairs at six schools in the Wellington area. The funding will address high-priority building condition issues, including structural repairs, roofing, heating systems, and electrical work. The project aims to prevent school buildings from becoming unusable and to mitigate health and safety risks. The recipient schools include Beech Grove Primary, Rockwell Green Primary, Cotford St Luke Community Primary, Milverton Primary, Oake, Bradford and Nynehead Primary, and Wiveliscombe Primary.
