Somerset Cricket Squad Bolstered by Johnny Connell for Metro Bank One Day Cup

Somerset County Cricket Club announced its 14‑man squad for the 2026 Metro Bank One Day Cup, naming Lewis Goldsworthy as captain. The squad is heavily depleted as regulars such as Will Smeed, Tom Banton, Tom Kohler‑Cadmore, Tom Abell, Thomas and James Rew, Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton are occupied with The Hundred, while Alfie Ogborne and Fin Hill are injured.

To fill the gaps, Somerset added academy prospect Ben Church, South Asian Cricket Academy batter Savin Perera and newly signed top‑order batter Johnny Connell. Connell, a 23‑year‑old who has scored centuries for Berkshire and Sussex Seconds, joins the side after a strong spell in county second‑XI cricket. He said he was excited by the unexpected opportunity to play for Somerset in the competition. The reinforced squad will seek to continue the club’s recent success in the one‑day format.
