Somerset cricket teams see mixed results in championship and women's play

Somerset cricket teams achieved notable results across different formats. In the County Championship, Essex secured a victory over Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground. Despite a high score of 469 from Somerset, including 110 from Thomas and 96 from Nicholls, Essex responded with 158 and a strong second innings of 314-3, led by Allison’s 105 not out and Critchley’s 76 not out.

In women’s cricket, the Somerset Women team qualified for Finals Day at Emirates Old Trafford after defeating the Hampshire Hawks by 35 runs. Skipper Sophie Luff scored 80 runs, while former England captain Heather Knight contributed 44 in her first professional appearance since international retirement. Somerset posted 207-7, and Lola Harris secured the win with three wickets for 18 runs, bowling out the Hawks for 172.
