Somfy and VoltR partner to integrate remanufactured lithium batteries

Somfy and VoltR have announced the integration of remanufactured French lithium batteries into Somfy’s SONESSE® 28 motors, which are used for interior blinds. This industrial implementation follows prototype development that began in the summer of 2023 and has been in use since early 2026.

The partnership utilizes a circular economy model to repurpose batteries that have reached the end of their first life cycle. Such batteries typically retain approximately 80% of their initial capacity, making them viable for new industrial applications. VoltR has developed an industrial process to collect, test, qualify, and reintegrate lithium cells into new eco-designed batteries manufactured in France.

This collaboration aims to reduce environmental impact by extending the lifespan of extracted resources and decreasing reliance on virgin raw materials and imports. According to Somfy Vice President of Purchasing Charles-Edouard Vasse, the initiative addresses the strategic challenge of growing battery demand amidst resource tensions while fostering a French circular economy sector.
