Somos platform establishes leadership in 31 Mexican states
The citizen platform Somos has completed the first stage of integrating its state and municipal leaderships, successfully electing committees in 31 of Mexico's 32 states. The organization noted that following its formal registration on July 1, the National Committee and National Electoral Commission coordinated elections through municipal and state assemblies.
In Quintana Roo, the election concluded on September 8 with the designation of Stefany Quijano as state president and Shelina Alonzo as general secretary. However, the process in Chiapas remains pending. Although a quorum was met, the only registered slate failed to achieve the necessary majority among assembly members. The National Electoral Commission has declared a recess to analyze the situation and develop a consensus-based legal solution, with a resolution expected by September 14.
To maintain organizational integrity, Somos has implemented a rule prohibiting those in leadership positions from running as candidates, aiming to separate organizational management from personal electoral ambitions.
