Son La Police prosecute seven for YouTube gold-panning scam

Son La Provincial Police have prosecuted seven individuals for fraud involving deceptive YouTube livestreams. The group allegedly used two channels, 'Cuộc sống tìm vàng' and 'bảo long', to promote a gold-panning scam.

During the livestreams, the suspects sold buckets of sand containing yellow particles for 500,000 VND each. They would demonstrate the panning process live, claiming the particles were real gold. Once customers showed interest, the suspects demanded additional payments for purported taxes and shipping fees. After receiving the funds, the group would block victims on Zalo and YouTube.

Authorities have determined that the total amount misappropriated exceeds 1 billion VND. The seven suspects, all residents of Lao Cai province, face charges of 'fraudulent appropriation of property' under Article 174 of the Penal Code.
