Son La police prosecute woman for food safety violations

Authorities in Son La province have prosecuted Tuong Thi Hoe for violating food safety regulations. Hoe, the mother-in-law of the owner of the Ha Thi Doai business household, was identified as a direct participant in the production of rice rolls (banh cuon) at the facility.

Following an inspection in June, law enforcement seized approximately 226.5kg of rice roll products and ingredients. Testing confirmed the presence of borax in the samples. Additionally, 1.65kg of borax, labeled as ‘Borax Pentahydrate – Technical Granular’, was found at the production site. Borax is not an authorized food additive.

Hoe admitted to using the substance to increase texture, create crispness, prevent spoilage, and stop the product from sticking to the spreading machine. The decision to prosecute and the travel ban have been approved by the Son La Provincial People's Procuracy.
