Son of Ljubljana Mayor granted Serbian citizenship via special provision
Jure Janković, the son of Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, was granted Serbian citizenship in November 2024 through a special government decision citing “national interest.” Investigative reports from KRIK and Oštro indicate that the specific national interest justifying this naturalization was not disclosed by the Serbian government.
Official land registry records show that Jure Janković registered his official Belgrade residence at a luxury villa owned by Nikola Petrović, a prominent energy executive and close confidant of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The reports highlight connections between the parties, noting that Petrović and Zoran Janković have met several times, including at a dinner with President Vučić.
The citizenship grant coincides with significant real estate activity involving Petrović in Slovenia. In July 2024, Petrović’s firm, NG Projekt, acquired three plots of land from the Municipality of Ljubljana at a public auction for approximately 1.5 million euros below the initial asking price. While Petrović declined to comment on his relationship with the Janković family, he criticized journalists for their inquiries.
