Son Sardina residents protest for public space in Palma

Residents of Son Sardina and Sa Garriga have announced a mobilization scheduled for Sunday, September 6, at 7:00 p.m. in front of Can Pasquet. The protest aims to demand that the Palma City Council fulfill its promise to transform the Can Pasquet site into a public square and a neighborhood community center (casal).

The controversy arose following reports that the land, which local groups have long requested for public use, was sold to a private real estate speculator. The Assemblea Popular de Son Sardina i Sa Garriga criticized Mayor Jaime Martínez for failing to provide concrete dates or a clear plan, despite his assurances that the space would eventually be public.

In response, the Palma City Council stated it is currently in negotiations with the present owner to acquire the plot. Officials indicated that if an agreement cannot be reached, the city will resort to expropriation to ensure the land serves the neighborhood's needs for public equipment and community activities.
