Son Ye Jin returns to historical drama genre in Netflix series ‘THE SCANDAL’

Actress Son Ye Jin has returned to the historical drama genre for the first time in 24 years, starring as Lady Jo in the Netflix series ‘THE SCANDAL’. The eight-episode series, which premiered on September 18, 2026, explores themes of social and moral conflict during the Joseon era.

Son Ye Jin revealed that she had previously avoided historical productions due to the intense physical demands and concerns regarding the complexity of traditional costumes. She noted that the heavy layers of hanbok and intricate hairstyles often hindered her concentration. During the filming of ‘THE SCANDAL’, she faced these challenges again, managing heavy clothing and maintaining strict posture while filming in summer heat.

Her decision to return to the genre was driven by the involvement of director Jung Ji Woo, known for works such as ‘EUNGYO’ and ‘SOMEBODY’, whose creative vision convinced her to take on the challenging role.
