SONACOS to invest 18 billion FCFA in Senegal peanut processing complex
The Société nationale de commercialisation des oléagineux du Sénégal (SONACOS) has announced an 18 billion FCFA investment to establish a new industrial complex in Médina Yorofoula. Spanning over 15 hectares, the project aims to strengthen the peanut value chain by covering stages from seed collection to processing, including crushing and oil packaging.
SONACOS Director General Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Guèye stated that the initiative aligns with President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye’s vision for regional industrialization and territorial development. The project is also intended to address the lack of professional opportunities for youth in southern Senegal by generating local employment.
The announcement follows a strategic assessment of industrial sites and agricultural potential in the southern regions, including Kolda and Ziguinchor. This move responds to the geographic shift of the peanut basin toward the Fouladou region, as noted by Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.
