Sonam Wangchuk calls for peaceful revolution in India

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has called for a ‘peaceful revolution’ to reform India’s political leadership and education system. Ahead of Independence Day, Wangchuk urged citizens to identify ‘selfless, fearless men and women of character and substance’ who could help shape the nation’s future by 2047.

Wangchuk expressed concern regarding India’s economic trajectory, noting that several neighboring countries have surpassed India in per capita GDP. He warned that without significant changes in how leaders are selected and how the education system is managed, India may fail to achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Additionally, Wangchuk highlighted issues regarding the integrity of elected officials, citing the presence of criminal cases among members of parliament. He argued that the suppression of dissent by various political parties across different levels of government remains a systemic issue that hinders national progress.
