Sonam Wangchuk leads candle march in Ladakh to honor protest victims
Activist Sonam Wangchuk led a candle march in Leh to mark the beginning of a month-long commemoration of the violent clashes that occurred in Ladakh in September 2025. The period from August 24 to September 24 is being observed to honor those killed and injured during protests for statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
Wangchuk called for the immediate release of the Inquiry Commission’s report regarding the September 2025 violence, noting that delays are eroding public confidence. He highlighted that the previous unrest resulted in deaths and significant injuries following police action and the burning of a BJP office.
A decisive meeting between the Leh Apex Body (LAB), the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA), and the Central government is scheduled for the first week of September to discuss regional demands.
