Sonam Wangchuk supports protest against Election Commissioner

Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk has expressed support for a protest scheduled for October 2 by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The CJP is demanding the CEC's resignation and seeking greater accountability within the Election Commission of India.

While Wangchuk stated he supports efforts to improve electoral processes and accountability in the country, he noted that he may not personally attend the demonstration in Mumbai. He emphasized that his current focus remains on seeking justice for Ladakh, specifically regarding the government's promise to include the region in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Opposition parties have also raised concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, calling for action against the CEC. Wangchuk remarked that while he supports movements for accountability, he cannot participate in every protest as he continues his own advocacy for Ladakh.
