Sonatrach and Sinopec sign major energy partnership in Beijing

Algerian national oil company Sonatrach and Chinese giant Sinopec have signed a major memorandum of understanding in Beijing to expand their strategic energy partnership. The agreement was signed during an official visit to China by Sonatrach CEO Nour Eddine Daoudi and a high-level delegation.

Building upon a previous 2024 agreement, this new framework broadens the scope of cooperation beyond traditional oil and gas exploration. The two companies will explore opportunities in conventional and unconventional hydrocarbons, the development of complex reservoirs, petrochemicals, and the strategic valuation of helium.

The partnership also emphasizes technological advancement and the energy transition. Key areas of focus include advanced petroleum engineering, renewable energy, new associated technologies, and skills development across the entire hydrocarbon value chain.
