Sondrio receives two Attilio Alfieri paintings as donation

The Municipality of Sondrio has enriched its contemporary art collections through the donation of two oil paintings by artist Attilio Alfieri. The works were donated to the city by the artist’s son, Aliosca.

The two pieces, ‘Contadino valtellinese’ (1948) and ‘Donna che fa la calza – Donna valtellinese’ (1953), depict aspects of the rural life and peasant culture of the Valtellina region. Alfieri, who was active primarily in Milan, focused much of his work on the ‘cycle of the humble,’ a series dedicated to the lives and working conditions of ordinary people.

Marcella Fratta, the Councilor for Culture, Education, and Instruction, noted that the paintings serve as a record of the territory and its inhabitants, highlighting the artist's inspiration drawn from his time spent in the area.
