Song Hye-kyo and Seo Kyoung-duk release video on activist Park Ja-hye

To commemorate the 81st Liberation Day, Professor Seo Kyoung-duk of Sungshin Women's University and actress Song Hye-kyo have released a multilingual video highlighting the life of female independence activist Park Ja-hye.

The four-minute video, featuring narration in both Korean and English, details Park's journey from being one of the last court ladies of the Joseon Dynasty to becoming a midwife and nurse. It highlights her role in treating wounded participants of the March 1st Movement and her leadership in forming the ‘Ganwoohoe’, an organization of nurses dedicated to the independence movement.

The film also covers her exile to China, her marriage to independence activist Shin Chae-ho, and her support for Na Seok-ju's bombing of the Oriental Development Company. Despite her contributions, the video notes she faced extreme poverty and surveillance by Japanese authorities, eventually passing away alone in a small room. This project is the seventh in a series by Seo and Song aimed at bringing international attention to lesser-known female activists.
