Song Kang reveals rejecting idol offer to pursue acting career

South Korean actor Song Kang revealed on the tvN variety show ‘You Quiz on the Block’ that he declined an offer to become an idol while studying at Konkuk University’s Department of Film Arts. Despite being described by host Yoo Jae Suk as having ‘idol center material’ looks, Song Kang chose to pursue acting because he felt he could not sing or dance.

Song Kang shared that his parents had differing views on his career choice; while his mother was skeptical due to his introverted nature, his father encouraged him to follow his interests. This support led him to enroll in an acting academy. He recalled early struggles with shyness during training and the significant milestone of winning a 900 to 1 audition for the series ‘Love Alarm’.

Reflecting on his success following the ‘Sweet Home’ series, Song Kang noted that he has been able to support his parents, including purchasing a car for his father.
