Song Young-gil Accuses Jeong Cheong-rae of Skipping Roh Moo-hyun Funeral

Democratic Party lawmaker Song Young-gil alleged that former party leader Jeong Cheong‑rae did not attend the funeral of former President Roh Moo‑hyun, saying “he turned his back on Roh and could not go to the funeral.” Song made the claim on KBS radio’s “Jeonggeuk Sisa.”

Jeong Cheong‑rae responded on Facebook, calling the allegation “100 % false” and demanding an apology, asserting that he had indeed attended Roh’s funeral and that the statement was misinformation.

The dispute is part of a broader contest for the party’s leadership ahead of the 8·17 Democratic Party convention, where figures such as Prime Minister Kim Min‑seok are also positioning themselves. Song suggested the accusation was intended to undermine Kim and other rivals, highlighting the intensifying intra‑party rivalry.
