Songkhla officials promote Koh Yo tourism and cultural soft power

Deputy Government Spokespersons Ploytalay Lakmisaengchan and Captain Phaddarasmi Thongsaloey led a press tour to Songkhla province from August 30 to September 1, 2026. The initiative aimed to promote local tourism, the grassroots economy, and the preservation of local wisdom as part of the government's soft power and creative economy policies.

The delegation visited Koh Yo to highlight religious and cultural landmarks, including Wat Phra Non Wat Laem Pho, which features one of the largest reclining Buddha statues in Thailand. The tour also included a visit to the Koh Yo weaving learning center at Wat Khok Phiao to showcase traditional hand-weaving techniques.

Officials emphasized that Songkhla offers diverse tourism opportunities beyond its natural scenery, including wellness, community-based tourism, and spiritual tourism. The efforts are intended to increase economic value by leveraging cultural identity and attracting both domestic and international visitors, particularly from neighboring Malaysia.
