Songül Alyaz donates kidney to husband in Çanakkale

In Gelibolu, Çanakkale, Songül Alyaz successfully donated a kidney to her husband, Nurdoğan Alyaz, who had been battling kidney failure for 10 years due to hypertension.

After years of managing the condition with medication, Nurdoğan Alyaz reached the stage of end-stage renal failure and required dialysis, which prevented him from working. Seeking a solution to prevent his dependence on dialysis, Songül Alyaz applied to the Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMÜ) Organ Transplant Center.

Medical professionals Prof. Dr. Cabir Alan and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hasan Anıl Kurt performed the transplant using a laparoscopic (closed) method. Following the procedure, the recipient's kidney values returned to normal within eight days. Due to the minimally invasive nature of the surgery, the donor, Songül Alyaz, was able to recover quickly and act as a companion to her husband during his recovery.
