Songwoo High School hosts forensic science lecture by NFS expert

Songwoo High School in Pocheon recently hosted a special lecture titled ‘The World of Forensic Science Told by a Chemist’ as part of its 2026 Creative Convergence Scientist Invitation program. Dr. Jeong Ji-eun from the Chemical Analysis Team of the National Forensic Service was invited to speak to students, middle schoolers, and parents.

During the session, Dr. Jeong explained the fundamental principle of forensic science that ‘every contact leaves a trace.’ She introduced various chemical analysis techniques, such as using isotope differences to trace the origin of substances, often referred to as ‘chemical fingerprinting.’ The lecture included real-world case studies to demonstrate how chemical knowledge is applied to solve crimes and how analytical results lead to scientific judgments.

Following the lecture, students participated in a hands-on experience where they examined equipment and samples used in actual forensic investigations. The event aimed to help students understand the practical applications of chemistry and explore potential career paths in forensic science.
