Sonia Marquez charged with torture and child abuse in Los Angeles
Sonia Marquez, 52, has been charged with multiple felony counts of torture and child abuse following the arrest of three girls in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. The victims, aged 9, 11, and 12, allegedly suffered severe neglect and were periodically locked inside a dog cage as punishment.
The abuse reportedly occurred between February 1 and early September 2026. The investigation began after the children escaped and were taken in by an adult, who subsequently contacted authorities. Following medical treatment, the children were placed in the custody of the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services.
Marquez has pleaded not guilty to the charges. She is currently being held on approximately $2.075 million bail. A preliminary hearing and bail review are scheduled for October 7.
