Sonia Sotomayor criticizes Supreme Court colleagues

During a fireside chat at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa, Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor reportedly made critical remarks regarding her conservative colleagues on the bench.

While discussing the different roles within the federal court system, Sotomayor distinguished between district courts, which resolve specific problems between parties, and circuit courts, which focus on correcting errors in law. Regarding the Supreme Court, she suggested that many of her colleagues prioritize what the law “should be” rather than what the law actually is, appearing to accuse them of advancing personally favorable outcomes.

Additionally, Sotomayor expressed concern over the decline of civic education in the United States. She reportedly stated, “Some of my colleagues don’t [understand our system of government] either by the way, and I’m not joking about that.”
