Sonic Team head reveals character selection criteria for film franchise

Takashi Iizuka, head of Sonic Team, has clarified the criteria for selecting characters for the Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise. He stated that popularity alone is not the deciding factor for a character's appearance on screen. Instead, filmmakers prioritize how a character fits the narrative, their relationships with other characters, and their ability to help expand the cinematic world.

This approach is reflected in recent installments, such as the inclusion of Shadow the Hedgehog in the third film. For the fourth film, Amy Rose and Metal Sonic are confirmed to appear, drawing inspiration from the 1993 game Sonic CD.

The Sonic film series, produced by Paramount Pictures, is available across various streaming platforms. Paramount+ serves as the primary home for the franchise, while regional availability varies through services like SkyShowtime, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.
